Please walk with us to start Tent City with a strong message

of community compassion.

Homelessness is most tragic when it is YOUR your family or friends in the shelter.  If you ever think it can never happen to you, go into any family shelter and ask how many parents thought they would ever have to swallow their pride and bring their young children into to a shelter.  Every 1 Matters! 

Help us return 1 more family or individual 1 step closer to a home.

1Matters Tent City is such a great source of community unity that all of the local media came together to lead our inaugural walk in the spirit of unity. This is the community unity and compassion John Mellencamp, ZZ Top, Crystal Bowersox and others in music industry notice and help promote. Lead sponsors for Tent City this year are Mercy Health Partners and Promedica Health System.

To prepare the feet for those still living on our streets for the coming winter, we will be collecting 1Mile of socks (that's 5280 feet, or 2640 pair!) to distribute this year at Tent City. Please bring a pair or two of new socks to the walk if you can.

The need is greater than ever! 

Yes, and the community response has always been exceptional at delivering the compassion of the entire community to Tent City. The people of northwest Ohio truly have a heart for others.

The 1Mile Matters Walk on October 26 is a chance to us to deliver YOUR compassion to those in need. This year's walk of unity starts at promenade park and ends at the Civic Center Mall to kick off Tent City.  A community dinner and entertainment all night follow. 

You can register for the walk and help us raise the funds needed to deliver your compassion, or just walk with us to send a message of community unity. Registration is $25 and earns a t-shirt.

Last year Tent City delivered over $140,000 of your compassion in the form of medical, dental, id's and other services.

Event Schedule 

4:30 pm: Registration Begins at Promenade Park

6:15 pm: Opening Walk Ceremony

6:30 pm: We are going to walk, back flip, ballroom, square, macarena, or two-step        dance, wagon, unicycle, zombie, skip, hop or other walk - 1 at a time! The word for the walk is "Fundatory."

7:00 pm - 8 pm: Dinner at Tent City

7:00 pm - whenever:  Pat Lewandowski's usual fantastic line-up of music late into the night.

College & High School student groups, church groups, or just a group of friends are invited to join dozens of others and spend the night either in a tent of your own, or ours.

Grand Prizes Include:

2 GREAT tickets and meet Justin Beiber in Detroit November 21st.

2 GREAT tickets and meet ZZ Top at their Toledo show at the Stranahan on November 1st.

2 GREAT tickets and meet Carrie Underwood in Detroit November 25th.

2 GREAT tickets and VIP Sound Check access to The Who's Quadrophenia at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit on November 24th.  

Top fundraiser takes first choice of the prize pool, second place 2nd choice, third is 3rd choice and 4th is the remaining prize. All prizes are non-transferable. Prizes will be awarded based on pledges collected by noon on Monday October 29th.  Prize winners will be announced on Wednesday, 10/31.

There will also be a raffle for two additional ZZ Top tickets and meet and greet.  Raffle tickets are only $10 and are available online, at the walk or Tent City.  Deadline for entries is noon on Monday, October 29th.
